How do people learn how to take the mississauga transit so easily?

Lately I've found myself needing to take the bus to hangout with my friends since they live so far away, but i have no clue how to get from 1 place to another and back. The trip planner seems helpful, but im not sure what time i will be going places, so is there some sort of secret?
